Being a host family is a unique, rewarding, fun and educational experience for all members of the family and an opportunity to create long-lasting relationships

You can become a host family and welcome a Brazilian international student into your home, they'll share with you their culture and you will the opportunity to represent Ottawa, and it's culture to them.

‍‍‍As a host family you become a vital part of our students’ time abroad and their experiences, you will be their home away from home.

All our host families are committed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our students to ensure they get the best experience abroad as possible.

Host families are key to breaking down the barriers of culture, helping students to feel at home and welcomed during their time in Canada.

Families must provide a bed, breakfast, packed lunch (for younger students only) and an evening meal Monday through Friday, and all meals on the weekends.

The home environment must be stable and caring, the home must provide easy access to local transportation to and from the students' school.

Host parents must submit an application with references, and are subject to a home visit by one of our experienced staff. Students bring their own spending money for personal needs, souvenirs, entertainment, and other incidentals.

All of our host families receive monetary compensation for hosting an IBN student. This sum is meant to support your family in the costs of hosting a student.

The remuneration value ranges from $750 to $840 a month.

Of course! Our hosts come in all shapes and sizes and we welcome a variety of diverse families.

I am not a "traditional" family, can I still host?

We work directly with you providing orientation at every step of hosting an international student.  From the moment we first meet to go over homestay details, to supporting you at the moment student arrives to says goodbye. We work directly here in Ottawa, and so will have the chance to connect and support you in person at all times.

How are host families supported?

We work alongside a number of diverse families. Like them, we will ask you to share your interests, lifestyles, hobbies, preferred hosting relationships, and even dietary restrictions.

When students apply to our programs, they complete similar profiles. With this information, we are able to match the student to a host family for a mutually enjoyable relationship.
